Jeremy Gluck was a Canadian who lived in London and had early sing in band called The Yohawks and The New Master Race. In London he and Robin Wills (ex- Lou Chysler et Les Noustiquaries) formed R.A.F. but it didn't took long before they changed the name to The Barracudas. Name was taken from an old The Standells song. The line-up was: Jeremy Gluck (vocals), Robin Wills (guitar & vocals), David Buckley (bass & vocals) and Nick Turner (drums). Band style in the beginning was some kind of neo-surf & punk.
The Barracudas supported band like the Clash and U.K. Subs and when record companies didn't seems to be interested in the band the made a D.I.Y. single I Want My Woody Back. This single was a minor hit and band was soon signed to Zonophone (sub-label of EMI). To EMI they recorded bunch of fine neo-surf song like Summer Fun and (I Wish It Could Be) 1965 Again and two sided (UP = surf punk and DOWN = dark stuff) LP Drop Out with the Barracudas.
After Drop Out Nick Turner left to join the Lords of the New Church, also David Buckley leave the band. New members where Jim Dickson (bass; ex- Surivors) and Graham Potter (drums). Band style became some sort of garage-rock. Chris Wilson (ex- Flamin’ Groovies) joined the band in 1982. Albums Meantime and Endeavour to Preserve, were released only in France. In 1984 Graham left the band and Mark Sheppard come to drums.
January 2 1985 the band disbanded because of general frustration: no record deal, no money, few gigs. After 'cudas Jeremy Gluck made some solo records and formed The Civilisation Machine, Rob Wills new band was called The Fortunate Son, Chris Wilson formed Rock' n' Roll Gypsies. Time went on and The Barracudas still was a big cult name (many demo & live records were released) so it was time to reform in 1989 with line-up: Jeremy Gluck (lead vocals), Robin Wills (guitar), Steve Robinson (bass) and Jay Posner (drums). With this line-up they did make great Wait fo Everything LP and last for two years, before break up again.
Jeremy Gluck tells about the end: "After Wait fo Everything it became clear that we had neither the money nor opoortunity to really keep going and, after some demos and so on, decided to just let things end. We played our last show in Madrid in spring of 1993, a very messy affair (captured on the Live in Madrid Again cd) that was part of Record Runner's 10th anniversary celebration. Robin wrote some more songs, some quite good....but in 1994 I moved out of London to the south coast of Wales, where I live now very happily with my wife, children and dog, and pursue very different interests (see my Web page). Robin lives in London still, has 2 kids...the usual  Steve lives there too, working in a great vintage guitar shop.... So that is the end of the story! I suppose we did alright for a cult group..." Big Beat Records
Big Beat International / CDWIKD 288

 * The Big Beat International label returns with a bang and another celebration of the wonderful world of Japanese 60s pop. After the acclaimed "GS I Love You" volumes, it's the girls turn, as Big Beat examine the distaff side of the country's remarkable GS pop scene with "Nippon Girls".

 * The likes of Shonen Knife and The 5-6-7-8s have given more face to women in Japanese pop, but they draw on a tradition that stretches back to the wild 1960s "Group Sounds" era, when the Land Of the Rising Sun was smitten with westernised rock'n'roll, yet came to develop its own distinctive brand of the same. Like in the west, female artistes tended to be solo, though their accompaniment often came from some of the top GS acts like the Bunnies. Major female stars of the period represented here include Miki Obata, Linda Yamamoto and Mie Nakao, the latter with the fuzztoned classic `Sharock No 1'.

 * The sound was eclectic, drawing upon not only the full smorgasbord of 60s styles like groovy go-go, lounge-y bossa nova and wobbly pop-psych, but also traditional Japanese songwriting and themes. There's dance floor fillers such as `Ye-Ye' and the usual fascinating interpretations of western material, such as Nana Kanomi's take on the Zombies' `I Love You'.

 * "Nippon Girls" is annotated by noted girl group expert and latter-day Japanese pop champion Sheila Burgel of Cha Cha Charming magazine, who provides a fascinating overview of this tremendous and compelling tributary of 60s pop. Highly recommended to girl group fanciers, GS groovers and any one else with a keen ear for eclectic 60s pop.

Il Balletto Di Bronzo - Sirio 2222 (1970)

Napoli, Italy [RCA PSL 10459]

Italian-sung hard-psychedelia at its best

"Il Balletto di Bronzo were born in Napoli in the late '60s and their debut album Sirio 2222 is considered one of the top Italian albums of all time. Not only this, it's also regarded internationally as one of the finest examples of hard-psychedelia ever to be recorded. It certainly has a progressive feel too, but being recorded in 1970, the prog sound was not still strongly installed, so this has only a flavor. An absolute killer of an album,, and original copies of this album go for $1000." ~ ForcedExposure

Kahvas Jute - Wide Open (1971)

Kahvas Jute - Wide Open (1971)

Italian reissue of legendary Australian psychedelic/hard rock album originally released on Trinity in 1973. The group is widely known in collectors circles for the guitar work of Dennis Wilson & Tim Gaze (also of the great hard-psyche group Taman Shud). Bassist Bob Daisley went onto work with Ozzy Osbourne, Widowmaker, Ritchie Blackmore & Gary Moore. For fans of Human Instinct.

This superb progressive rock band is one of the hidden treasures of early-70s Australian rock. They were one of the first bands signed to Festival's new progressive imprint Infinity and produced just one brilliant gem of an album, Wide Open, which is regrettably their only commercial recording. It earned rave reviews at the time, and it's been justly praised by rock historian Ian McFarlane as "a progressive rock milestone". Alongside their comtemporaries Spectrum, Tamam Shud, Blackfeather and The Aztecs, Kahvas Jute spearheaded a new direction and indentity for Australian music. Their album, and the single from it (Free) are still regarded as among the best Australian 'prog' releases of the period. The LP has long been a prized collectors item both here and overseas, but happily it has been reissued on CD and it’s a must-have for anyone serious fan of Australian music.
